Kelley Dowling founded Balm in 2023. Her first design was a pepto bismol pink childhood bedroom.
In her 20s and as a newlywed, Kelley saved $700 to decorate her first apartment, but watched the sum dwindle to nothing, with no more than some plants and a kitchen table to show for it.
In her 30s and as a new mom, she used the baby crazies to take free courses on decorating and designed their tiny apartment to stay sane through the doldrums of a colicky baby.
Then decorating spaces for friends and family…just for fun at first, and then for more.

While my professional background is in government and nonprofits, I've had the best design education a person could ask for: making every mistake a person can in a narrow field and setting up house in seven different homes and apartments since 2015.
I now live in Georgetown, Texas with my family. In my free time, I volunteer at the Caring Place in Georgetown, enjoy exploring new cities with a travel buddy, and am a bit of a coffee connoisseur.
